George W. Burke III, M.D.

George W. Burke III, M.D. joined the MCV Foundation board in 2015.

George joined the VCU School of Medicine Pulmonary Division as an assistant professor in 1977, then in 1979 entered private practice with Pulmonary Associates of Richmond where he worked until his retirement in 2014.

George received his M.D. from the Medical College of Virginia in 1970 and completed postgraduate training at MCV Hospital and a research fellowship at Boston University. His community activities have included board service to the Richmond AIDS Consortium, the Richmond AIDS Ministry, Virginia Health Information Corporation and Richmond Academy of Medicine.

Maintaining close ties to VCU, George has served as an assistant clinical professor (1990-2008), Alumni Chairman of the VCU SOM Annual Fund (1997-2001) and board member of the MCV Alumni Association (2001-2009).

In retirement George volunteers for the VCU School of Medicine Office of Admissions. He is a longstanding parishioner of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, a fly fisherman and pursues the sport of sailing with his wife Lyons.
