Harry R. Thalhimer has been a Trustee of the MCV Foundation since 2009 and is a past chair of the board.
A graduate of Northwestern University and the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business, Harry began his career in retailing with Marshall Fields in Chicago and returned to Richmond in 1978 to work for Thalhimers. In 1997 he purchased AJD, a leading headwear manufacturer, and launched Thalhimer Headwear. Over the past 20 years, the company has continued to manufacture casual headwear for leading brands in the retail, fashion, corporate and outdoor markets across the United States, Europe and Scandinavia.
Harry’s involvement at VCU spans 30+ years and includes his work on the MCV Campus, the School of Business, the Institute for Contemporary Art, VCU’s Fashion Department, VCU Athletics and the BrandCenter. Other community involvement includes work with the Jewish Community Federation, VMFA, Goodwill Industries, the Richmond Symphony and more.
Harry and his wife Marcia have been married for nearly 40 years. They have two sons, Michael (Alyson) and Andrew, and recently welcomed their first grandchild, Rose.
