James H. Starkey III

James H. Starkey III joined the MCV Foundation board in 2005.

Jim is the president of Starkey Consulting, which advises government and business clients on international, agricultural, trade and development issues. He retired in 2006 as vice president of Richmond-based tobacco giant Universal Corp., as senior vice president of Universal Leaf Tobacco Co. and as vice president and member of the executive management board of Deli Universal.

A former member of the Virginia State University Board of Visitors, Jim is currently president of the Maryland Tobacco Improvement Foundation and treasurer of the Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens Board of Directors. He also serves on the advisory board of Red River Foods Corporation.

Jim holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Washington & Lee University and a master’s degree in international economics from George Washington University. He and his wife Judi reside in Richmond.
