Peter F. Buckley, M.D., is interim senior vice president for VCU Health Sciences and CEO of VCU Health System, a role he assumed in January 2020. He became the dean of the VCU School of Medicine in 2017.
A psychiatrist and expert in schizophrenia, Dr. Buckley is also a professor of psychiatry and executive vice president of medical affairs for VCU Health System.
From 2010-2017, Dr. Buckley served as dean of the Medical Collee of Georgia at Augusta University. He also served for two years as interim chief executive officer of AU Medical Center and AU Medical Associates and executive vice president for health affairs. In 2016, he was appointed as executive vice president for medical affairs and integration. Dr. Buckley joined MCG in 2000 as chair of the Department of Psychiatry and health behavior.
Dr. Buckley serves as a member of the board of directors for the Association of American Medical Colleges and chair of the AAMC Council of Deans. He is a distinguished fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and is also a fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. Dr. Buckley is a member of the board of trustees, Educational Commission on Foreign Medical Graduates.
Dr. Buckley has served on the Maintenance of Certification Committee for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology as a reviewer for the Liaison Committee on Medical Education, and as a reviewer/panel participant for the national Academy of Medicine.
