Ellen E. Spong joined the MCV Foundation board in 2002 and served three terms. In 2014, she rejoined the board after a brief hiatus.
Ellen is senior vice president and director of Institutional Advisory Services at Atlantic Union Bank. For more than 30 years she has worked with nonprofit organizations, foundations and endowments to support their philanthropic goals through policy development and management of investment assets, including charitable trusts and other philanthropic instruments. She previously worked for Wells Fargo as senior vice president of philanthropic services and for SunTrust Banks as managing director of the foundations and endowments specialty practice. She also served as director of planned giving for The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.
She is a past chair of the Audit and Appropriations Committee of the MCV Foundation board and recently chaired the foundation's Strategic Planning Task Force. In the community, Ellen also serves on the board of directors for The Richmond Forum and is chair of its Investment Committee. She is also a trustee of the Westminster Canterbury Foundation, past president of the Virginia Gift Planning Council Board of Directors, and past president of the Richmond Estate Planning Council.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in government and foreign affairs from the University of Virginia, is a member of the LEAD Virginia Class of 2013 and is a Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP®).
