Caitlin Hanbury
Caitlin joined the MCV Foundation in August 2025 as the associate director of strategic projects and client support to oversee integrated communications projects that help the foundation and its partners at VCU Health and the VCU health sciences campus achieve their strategic marketing, stewardship and fundraising goals.
With more than 15 years of experience in crafting compelling narratives and communications strategies, she brings expertise in driving strategic messaging in higher education and nonprofits and leading multi-channel communications campaigns. Most recently, she served as the director of communications for the VCU School of Nursing where she led the development and execution of communications strategies, writing and shaping the school’s key stories, achievements and initiatives. She has also led strategic communications efforts across a range of academic and cultural institutions, including the VCU School of Pharmacy, the University of New Mexico College of Arts & Sciences, the VCU College of Humanities and Sciences and the Maymont Foundation—developing targeted messaging and creating compelling content that builds long-lasting relationships with key audiences and stakeholders.
Caitlin earned her M.A. in art history with a concentration in museum studies from VCU and a bachelor’s degree in English language and literature and a bachelor’s in art history from the University of Virginia. She lives in Richmond, where she spends her time restoring her well-loved old home and exploring the wild beauty of the city’s riverside park system.
