Dr. Sheldon Retchin Named Inaugural Perlin Professor
Sheldon Retchin, MD, MSPH, Senior Vice President for Health Sciences at VCU, CEO of the VCU Health System, and an Affiliate Professor in the Department of Health Administration, was invested as the inaugural Seymour and Ruth Perlin Professor of Health Administration and Internal Medicine at a dinner at the Cosmos Club in Washington, DC on May 1. The Professorship, the first to be established across two schools on the MCV campus, was endowed by Drs. Jonathan and Donna Perlin in honor of his parents, Dr. Seymour and Ruth Perlin.
Dr. Jonathan Perlin, Chief Medical Officer & President, Clinical Services, of HCA in Nashville, is a 1997 graduate of the MSHA program. He also received MD and PhD degrees from VCU. Dr. Donna Perlin is also a VCU MD alumna. Dr. Retchin’s cross-disciplinary background reflects the goals of the professorship, which supports scholarship and collaboration between the Department of Health Administration in the School of Allied Health Professions and the Department of Internal Medicine in the School of Medicine.
