Margaret Ann Bollmeier

MCV Foundation President and CEO Accepts Role at UNC Health Foundation

After almost 10 transformative years, MCV Foundation president and CEO Margaret Ann Bollmeier has accepted an offer to serve as the next president of the UNC Health Foundation and Chief Philanthropy Officer for UNC Health and the UNC School of Medicine. Her last day at the MCV Foundation will be September 9.

Under Bollmeier’s direction, the MCV Foundation has grown and evolved in unprecedented ways that better support VCU Health and VCU Health Sciences. The foundation’s endowment has grown from $371 million in 2016 to $870 million today, with total assets reaching more than $1 billion. In that time, Bollmeier has dramatically increased the staff’s diversity and more than tripled its size to provide greater capacity for fundraising, financial stewardship, donor relationships, outreach, community education, and communications support for the MCV Campus at VCU.

During her tenure, fundraising on the MCV Campus has increased from $41.5 million in 2016 to over $144 million this year.  She has also led three comprehensive organizational strategic planning processes, brought the foundation’s popular Discovery Series to Richmond, and overseen improved financial reporting processes that better serve partners across campus.

“Serving the MCV Foundation has been a privilege and an honor,” Bollmeier said. “I am proud of how much we have accomplished in the past 10 years to improve patient care, research and education in this community and beyond through philanthropy. The best part of this role has been working with so many talented and dedicated staff, trustees and partners in health sciences at VCU.”

“Margaret Ann has led the foundation to achieve many new heights during her tenure, and we are thankful for her time with us,” said Darius Johnson, chair of the MCV Foundation Board of Trustees.  “We are certain that UNC Health has found a dynamic leader who will accelerate their success, just as she did ours.”

The MCV Foundation leadership transition is an opportunity for the organization to enter its next phase of evolution and grow in its steadfast support of VCU Health and VCU Health sciences.

“We thank Margaret Ann for her time at the foundation, and we are excited about the foundation’s future,” said Steve Gaidos, chair-elect of the MCV Foundation Board of Trustees. “We have a tremendous staff, forward-looking strategic plan and committed board who are focused on excellence and fulfilling our mission to support and foster VCU Health and VCU Health Sciences.”

The MCV Foundation Board of Trustees will move deliberately and with purpose to design and execute a process to fill the CEO position. Updates will be shared on the MCV Foundation website and with partners as they are solidified.
