Overlooking a commanding view of the James River, more than 115 guests gathered May 28 to thank donors who have made a planned gift and to celebrate the future impact their support will have on VCU Health and VCU Health Sciences.
The event was hosted at Highclere, the home of Louise Martin, a beautiful space with classic English post‑and‑beam construction, complete with leaded‑glass windows. Louise’s late husband, David, named the house for its sweeping views of the countryside overlooking the James River.
The annual MCV Society Garden Party celebrates donors who are planting seeds for the future by supporting patient care, teaching and research at VCU. The MCV Society was created in 1994 to recognize and thank those donors who have included any of the MCV Campus schools or units in their philanthropic plans.
“MCV Society members are among our most loyal and devoted supporters,” said Brian Thomas, interim president and CEO of the MCV Foundation. “Their generosity will touch every area of the MCV Campus and ensure it will continue to flourish.”
During the past year, the MCV Society welcomed 30 new members, bringing total membership to 717 individuals. The impact of planned giving remains astonishing. This year new documented planned gifts and realized bequests exceeded $25 million. Collectively, MCV Society membership has documented the intention to give more than $100 million in future support across the campus.
“Each year, the MCV Society continues to grow,” Thomas said. “We are grateful for the opportunity to celebrate and thank this exceptional group of donors who believe in our mission and in the importance of sustaining the world-class care, education and research happening at VCU Health.”
