In 2023, a VCU School of Medicine professor pledged $400,000 to create the Robert L. Balster Scholarship to help students pursue the addiction science education.

Inspired by his parents who met at MCV, Steve Garrett and his wife Shirley established scholarships named in honor of his parents at both the VCU School of Nursing and VCU School of Pharmacy.
