The board, staff and friends of the MCV Foundation are heartbroken to learn that Ken Wright, a donor, a friend, an inspiration and a generous human being, has passed away.

This summer, seven students from the VCU School of Medicine traveled to Ghana in West Africa. They made the journey because they wanted to see, hear and experience global health — things they wouldn’t be able to extract from a book held in their hands here in Richmond.

Only at an academic health facility like VCU Health can faculty, surgeons and students from pharmacy, medicine and engineering work together to accomplish such goals.

Two years and nine months of lifesaving care at VCU Health following a traumatic accident inspired Joyce and Rich Johnson to make a very big announcement this May -- $1 million to support and name the surgical trauma intensive care unit at VCU Health.

Over the past two years, we have joined our colleagues at the VCU College of Health Professions in celebrating their groundbreaking and topping-off ceremonies for their new 154,000-square-foot education and research facility. This March we helped cut the ribbon.

We were honored this month to once again celebrate the life-changing opportunities and potential that our generous MCV Campus donors create and perpetuate for students every year through their scholarship contributions.

Just over 100 years ago, 19 pioneering women began their journeys in health science education at the Medical College of Virginia. Today, female students are receiving support from those who came before.

We were pleased to help some of our MCV Campus Partners raise funds for students and life-saving research during Giving Tuesday.

This year marks two big birthdays on the MCV Campus: The School of Medicine turns 180 years old and the School of Nursing turns 125.

The Revere Scholars program, funded by the Dr. James H. Revere Jr. Professorship for Faculty Excellence, recognizes outstanding achievements of junior faculty members and provides funding for their research, scholarship and professional development efforts.

As VCU Health continues to reshape Richmond’s skyline and the future of healthcare in Central Virginia, administrators, patients, faculty, friends and neighbors gathered this summer at the corner of North 10th and East Leigh streets to break ground on the largest capital construction project in the health system’s history.
